Brad Lewis Memorial Criterium – July 1
This Sunday, July 1 brings the 7th Annual Brad Lewis Memorial Criterium. Though we’ve actually been racing on Boat Street since 1999, the event was renamed in 2007 in memory of Recycled Cycles Racing team member and friend Brad Lewis, who died of a heart attack during the race in April 2006. He was just 38 years old, and was survived by his wife, Emily Westbrook.
“At the time, when Brad passed away, there was some reservation about even continuing the race the next year,” says Robert Trombley. “But we decided it was worthwhile to continue in his memory. His family comes out every year and we just keep trying to do it because it’s the right thing to do.”
The event means a lot to everyone at the shop and on the team. Though we’ve said goodbye to some on the team and welcomed new faces, the spirit behind the Brad Lewis Memorial Crit remains.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the American Heart Association.
*PLEASE NOTE: Traffic conditions around Boat Street might make access to the shop a bit challenging, so if you’re shopping this weekend (and we hope you are) it’s a good time to check out our Fremont location!
