Safety on the streets

There has been so much in the news lately about bike safety and traffic. We’ve been touched by it here at Recycled Cycles, with a number of staff and friends on the losing side of run-ins with cars. And this weekend, driving near my house, I saw a kid and his bike on the ground after being hit by a car. Luckily, the (helmetless) kid was sitting up and appeared to be OK, but it was a too-local reminder that accidents don’t just happen on busy city streets, but in neighborhoods and driveways, too. I headed home to have yet another bicycle safety talk with my kids, who are just now old enough to be riding without us right by their sides.

If you live in Seattle and care about safety for everyone on our streets, I urge you to participate in Mayor McGinn’s Road Safety Summit. There will be a public forum tonight, 10/24, a second one on Tues. 11/15, and a third on Mon. 11/21.

New warehouse!

For those of you who follow our Facebook posts, it may not be news that we’re moving out of our old warehouse on Stone Way just a few blocks southwest to a brand new shiny (to us) warehouse. Why are we so excited? Well, there are a number of reasons. First, our old building got sold, so we would have been out on the streets anyway. The new place has a much better floorplan, making it easier to get bikes in and out and easier to build and restore bikes. That means we’ll be more efficient and better able to keep the bikes we need on the sales floor for you. And, we’ll have room to grow – which is never a bad thing.

Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the new digs are right across the street from Fremont Brewing!
